John is an exceptional therapist. I worked with him for around two years as I navigated some big life transitions. He is a very good listener and provided solid emotional support whilst also challenging my thinking and behaviours.
Sessions were structured with feeling check-ins at the start and end as well as lots of space to explore what was coming up for me on a week by week basis. He also provided worksheets and homework from sessions which helped me develop coping strategies and toolkits that I still use to this day.
John’s knowledge of the 12 Step model meant the sessions complemented and built on the work I was doing outside of the sessions.
Above all, I felt very safe in my sessions with John and even when things were tough I felt comforted in the knowledge that with the support of his expertise I would make the right decisions to move me forward in my life.

I struggled with alcohol addiction for many years, even though I was only 35. I lost my job more than once, and eventually my partner threw me out of the house. I had no choice but to move back in with my parents.
I carried on drinking in my room and tried to hide it from them, but looking back, I think they always knew what was going on. I had no money, was drowning in debt, and eventually even resorted to stealing alcohol from shops.
Someone recommended John to me, and I spent 18 months seeing him every week. During that entire time, he never charged me a penny, and slowly my life began to turn around. He believed in me when I had completely stopped believing in myself.
On John’s recommendation, I joined AA, and for the first time I felt connected to other people. I had always believed I was worthless, but being there made me feel less alone.
I can’t thank John enough for his kindness, patience, and understanding — especially as there were times when I would cancel sessions at the last minute. I genuinely believe I was incredibly lucky to have been guided towards him. Someone was definitely looking out for me that day.
I am now 6 years clean and have never looked back.
